This Month: Jan Goffa, Software Developer at Fortes Milestones
Jan is 41 years old, happily married, and lives with his wife and their eight children in Martin, a city in Slovakia with a population of about 50,000. His children range in age from two and a half to nineteen. It’s a lively household, where there’s always something going on.
His career has actually always been tied to IT. Jan studied Business Informatics and began his career as a junior IT specialist. Later, his work included testing base stations for mobile networks. One moment that has really stuck with him is the first time he and his colleagues saw an LTE carrier on a spectrum analyzer in the lab. It may be a technical detail, but for Jan, it was exactly the kind of moment that makes you realize why technology can be so fascinating.
Over time, he also began taking on smaller programming tasks. Step by step, he continued to grow in the field of software development. Jan has now been working at Fortes Milestones for nine years, in a role he describes as his dream job.
What appeals to him about it? Learning new things, solving problems, and seeing how technology can be used to create practical solutions.
As a Software Developer, Jan works on the technology behind Fortes Milestones. In doing so, he considers three things to be especially important: continuing to learn, being reliable, and collaborating effectively with the team. Because, in his view, software development isn’t just about writing code—it’s also about understanding one another, making decisions together, and ensuring that the solution works for the people who will be using it.

In projects, too, Jan looks beyond just the technical aspects. For him, a pleasant work environment, the use of new technologies, and a steady stream of interesting work are important. This combination allows him to continue developing his skills while adding value to Fortes Milestones’ products.
Outside of work, Jan enjoys spending time with his children and is active in the church. In addition, he discovered a new hobby two years ago: orienteering. Although he might not immediately see himself as a typical runner, he has fallen in love with this sport. He now helps organize competitions and occasionally participates himself.
A surprising fact about Jan? During the pandemic, he discovered the Italian singer Drupi. His music has since become a regular recommendation. Especially when the house is full of noise and Jan needs to concentrate. That’s when he puts on his big headphones, turns up the music a bit, and gets to work.
What sets Jan apart is his calm and inquisitive nature. He loves technology, but especially technology that achieves something. Solutions that are practical, work reliably, and help organizations move forward. That’s exactly why he’s such a great fit for the team behind Fortes Milestones.
